To provide a device and a method for adjusting the position of a reel, by which the position of a reel at the starting time of winding can be adjusted automatically.
The edge position (distance a from the line center C1) of a steel strip 1 is detected by using the photo head 8 of an EPC (edge position control) device before the steel strip 1 is wound on a reel 4 and the center position in the width direction of the steel strip 1 is detected on the basis of the detected edge position of the steel strip 1 and the board width w of the steel strip 1. Then, the reel 4 is shifted from the line center C1 in the width direction so that a reel center C2 coincides with the detected center position in the width direction of the steel strip 1. Thus, centering when being wound is performed automatically.
