To provide a device and a method for detecting clogging of a hollow part in a cast product, enabling stable detection by straightening turbulence of air.

The device is a detection device for detecting presence of clogging of a cylinder head that is provided with a water jacket 7, which is a hollow part and has a plurality of paths. The detection device includes: an air supplying means 2, which is set in the vicinity of one end of a path 8 that is one of the plurality of paths and is used to detect whether clogging exists therein, and which supplies air to the path 8 from the vicinity of the one end; a flow straightener 3, which is set in the vicinity of the other end of the path 8, and which is a flow straightening means to straighten the air exhausted from the other end; and a wind velocity measuring means, which is set in the downstream side of the flow straightener 3 and measures the velocity of the air exhausted from the flow straightener 3.
