To provide a device and method for detecting a conveyance soil and sand amount of a belt conveyor for being maintained at a suitable conveying speed set in an allowable range when measuring a soil and sand amount supplied to a belt conveyor.
The device and method for detecting the conveyance soil and sand amount of the belt conveyor comprises repeatedly measuring a distance up to the surface of soil and sand conveyed on the belt 8a at a prescribed cycle with a distance sensor 16 arranged upward of the belt conveyor 8, calculating a cross section area of soil and sand passed from a difference between a distance up to the surface of soil and sand detected by the sensor 16 and a reference distance up to a belt face with a calculating means, finding the conveyance soil and sand amount per unit time by integrating to calculate a conveyance soil and sand volume per measured cycle time from the cross section area of soil and sand and the conveying speed of the belt conveyor with a conveyance soil and sand integrating means, controlling the conveying speed of the belt conveyor 8 in response to the quantity of the obtained conveyance soil and sand with a speed control means, increasing the conveying speed of the belt conveyor 8 when exceeding an upper limit setting the soil and sand amount, and decreasing the conveying speed when not exceeding a lower limit setting the soil and sand amount.
