Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely discriminate the tape cassette of a thin hub type for 70 to 90 minutes and the tape cassette of a C cassette type in a high speed REW mode.
SOLUTION: A system controller 5 is provided with a function for calculating a ratio N of a rotation period Ts to a rotation period Tt, a function for calculating a peculiar value A for each type of a tape cassette 1 determined by the operation expression of Ts**2+Tt**2 (**: power) and a function for discriminating the type of the tape cassette 1 loaded in equipment on the basis of the ratio N and the value A. In the high speed REW mode, the value of the ratio N is found as Ts/Tt and when this value of the ratio N is smaller than 1.0 and the type discriminated on the basis of the value A is a thin hub type, with the discriminated result as a temporary value, a tape is rewound at low speed. When the value of the ratio N becomes almost 1.0, on the basis of the value A, the tape type is discriminated again.
