PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display or print as many Japanese sentences as possible by a display or printing device of limited dot constitution and obtain a display or print which is easy to read.
SOLUTION: The device has a character code string memory 1, a one-line character code buffer 2, a character feeding with setting part 3, a justification process part 4, a character ROM 5, a display memory 6, etc. The character feeding width setting part 3 pays attention to shape features such as the numbers of constituent segments of characters belonging to each character kind by character kinds and switches displayed or printed character size. As for a specific character kind, attention to the font shape of each character is paid and the feed width of each displayed or printed character in a line direction is changed. After said switching control processes by the character kinds and characters are performed to display or print document information consisting of plural lines, the justification process part 4 adjusts the width of spaces between characters or words in the line direction or enlarges or reduce the respective characters in the line direction so that the respective lives are justified.
