In the evaluation device for applying a magnetic field 3 from the outside to a magnetic head 1 using a magnetoresistance effect element to evaluate electromagnetic transduction characteristics of the magnetic head 1, a temperature evaluation is carried out for the electromagnetic transduction characteristics by heating and cooling the magnetic head 1 in non-contact therewith. The magnetic head is arranged in a constant temperature oven 5 controlled to be at a high temperature and/or a low temperature. The temperature evaluation is carried out for the electromagnetic transduction characteristics by irradiating the magnetic head with a laser light.
