Abstract:

To effectively suppress the emission of soot generated in an engine combustion chamber into the atmosphere.

This exhaust emission control device comprises a main injection means (injector) 7 for mainly injecting fuel at a specified timing in an intake stroke or a compression stroke so that stratified combustion is performed in the engine combustion chamber 4, a main ignition means (ignition plug) 6 for mainly combusting fuel by mainly igniting the mainly injected fuel, a post- injection means (injector) 6 for post-injecting fuel at a specified timing in an expansion stroke after the main ignition, and a post-combustion control means 43 for controlling the post-combustion timing of the fuel post-injected based on the main combustion state of the mainly ignited fuel. In the post-combustion control means 43, the post-combustion start timing is set based on a timing when the main combustion of the mainly ignited fuel is completed. The method of controlling the exhaust emission uses the exhaust emission control device.
