Abstract:

To provide a device and method for forming the gas diffusion layer of a fuel cell, wherein the gas is supplied efficiently and successfully by reducing the pressure loss during gas supply.

A collector as the gas diffusing layer, that is, a metal lath MR is formed by using a metal lath working device R. This device R is provided with a feed roller OR for supplying a stainless sheet S, a pad mechanism PK for fixing the sheet S, a lifting mechanism LK for lifting the sheet S and an edge die H for forming a net-like through-hole by shearing the sheet S successively. The edge die H is composed of a receiving die UG and a cutting die SG provided with an approximately trapezoid upper edge UH, and the receiving die UG and the cutting die SG are synchronously moved in the width direction of the sheet S. The receiving die UG is provided with a lower edge receiver SH for holding the unsheared part of the sheet S between the edge of an upper edge UH and itself when a part of the sheet S is sheared and stretched with an upper edge UH.
