Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely determine an absolute rotating location and to stepwisely change return torque.
SOLUTION: A vehicle power steering system 24 is provided with a rotating location sensor 32 outputting signals showing a plurality of possible absolute locations separated each other by a multiple of a roll-over angle. At the time of an initial operation, one absolute location is selected as an unadjusted steering location from a plurality of absolute locations, the unadjusted steering location is updated according to a sensor output change, a pair of recursion offsets are tested at the update location, the recursion offset outside the range of the absolute locations are eliminated and lastly left recursion offsets are latched. Return torque in which a temporary value of the recursion offset at the time of a test is zero is provided. When a return torque value is a right direction after the latch, the temporary value is successively and incrementally changed to a final value and a sudden increase of return torque is avoided. A successive moving is terminated by depending on whether the temporary value reaches the final value or whether a true steering location reaches a center or not. The final value is used for determining the absolute location and return torque at an updated and unadjusted location in this way.
