To precisely recognize a specific pattern fast.
When multi-valued image data of each pixel of an input color image is of a specific color or the pixel is sandwiched between ON pixels, the pixel is considered through image processing to be an ON pixel. A pattern constitute din a specific shape is detected from obtained low-resolution data. Preferably, the condition that a pixel of interest is of a specific color is added.
