To provide a portable peening device (a sheet metal repairing device) which can be miniaturized when peening a metal sheet, in particular, when repairing a sheet metal, and to provide a peening method (a sheet metal repairing method) using the device.
When a trigger 51 is pulled, a control valve 52 is opened, and compressed air generated by a compressor 30 passes through a shot flow-in pipe 32 (a shot inlet 23) and flows into a container 20. Because a safety valve 31d closes a connection pipe 31c, the safety valve 31d stops the return of shot 3 into the shot flow-in pipe 32 (the shot inlet 23). By operating a first slider 55b, the shot moves between second portions B and C of a groove 55a in the direction from B to C. The safety valve 31d is also turned integrally with a connection bar 55f to open a connection pipe 31c, and the safety valve 31d permits the return of the shot 3 into the shot flow-in pipe 32 (the shot inlet 23).
