To provide a device having a detachable constructing chamber that can be quickly mounted and positioned in a process chamber, and a method.

The device comprises the process chamber including a powder floor distributed along a certain plane and a supporting housing and the constructing chamber 25 detachably mounted to the supporting housing. The supporting housing has lifts 166, 168 operable so as to move the constructing chamber 25 between a charging position and a constructing position. The constructing chamber 25 has a constructing table 62 movable along the moving axis and a plurality of positioning surfaces respectively adapted so as to be releasably engaged with the corresponding surfaces on the supporting housing. Consequently, the moving axis of the constructing table 62 is substantially vertical to the plane of the powder floor by engaging the positioning surfaces with the corresponding surfaces so as to position the constructing table 62 to the powder floor by the movement of the constructing chamber 25 to the constructing position.
