Abstract:
To reduce the processing load for obtaining quantization values.
An encoder 100 determines each quantization step on the basis of the number of usable bits and a masking threshold. The encoder 100 produces each quantization value by quantizing an input audio signal on the basis of the determined quantization step. When the number of bits used for each quantization value is greater than the number of usable bits, the encoder 100 compensates for the lack of bits using supplementary bits stored in a bit reservoir 140.
