Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for reading a bar code capable of normally performing character demodulation without being affected by the dispersion of respective character widths in the bar code.
SOLUTION: This device is provided with a read part for reading a bar code where plural characters are indicated and a CPU for demodulating characters based on the read result of the read part. When the ratio of the demodulated character length Cy of a demodulated character E1 and the character length Cz to be demodulated of the character E7 to be demodulated is equal to or more than a threshold, the CPU corrects a reference black bar width X and then corrects a black bar width B1 and the black bar width B2 with the corrected reference black bar width X as a reference. Then, the CPU demodulates the character E7 to be demodulated based on the corrected black bar width B1 and black bar width B3.
