Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable an image reader, which reads image data of a stationary document mounted on a platen through movement scanning, to read the whole document including black-and-white and color documents at a high speed.
SOLUTION: The image reading device comprises an optical read means which reads the image data of the stationary document mounted on the platen through the movement scanning in 1st read mode with a 1st moving speed or 2nd read mode with a 2nd moving speed and a discriminating means for discriminating the kind of the image data read by the optical read means. The 1st read mode is a mode for reading a black-and-white image and its document read speed is faster than the document read speed of the 2nd read mode for reading a color image.
