At the time of recording data, a data recording and reproducing device 1 generates plural pieces of divided data by dividing input data DI through a data distributor 22, generates redundant code data P1 and P2 composed of Reed-Solomon codes with which errors of plural pieces of divided data can be corrected, and records the divided data and the redundant code data P1 and P2 through HDD 21l-21k, 281 and 282. At the time of reproducing data, on the other hand, the device 1 reproduces the divided data and the redundant code data from the HDD 21l-21k, 281 and 282, performs error correction to the divided data based on the redundant code data through an error corrector 31 and outputs respective error-corrected divided data while multiplexing them through a data multiplexer 32.
