To record and reproduce a still picture and/or moving image while using a CCD imaging device for reading all the pixel in a field cycle.

An object 1 fetched into a CCD imaging device 3 composed of full pixel CCD is temporarily recorded in an image memory 7. In the case of TOP field, all the pixels are recorded in the image memory 7 but in the case of BOTTOM field, only the pixels on even-number lines are recorded. The still picture is recorded in the TOP field for each frame. Afterwards, this picture is recorded in a recording medium 5 by performing image compressing suitable for the image through a compression circuit 4. In the case of moving image, at the time of reproduction, the pixels on the even-number lines are abandoned in the TOP field and the pixels on odd-number lines are reproduced but in the BOTTOM field, the pixels on the even-number lines are reproduced. In the case of still picture, all the pixels in the TOP field are reproduced.
