PURPOSE: To provide a device and method which exactly and easily remove the jacket of an optical fiber without damaging its bare optical fiber.
CONSTITUTION: This removing device has a cutting blade member 15a and a holder 15 which holds it flexedly and also the cutting blade member 15a has at least a couple of straight blade parts that faces each other on the same plane at a specific interval, and also the removing device may have a means which displaces or rotates the cutting blade member 15a, an optical insertion guide, an optical fiber holding means, an opening means, an optical fiber rotating means, etc., at need. The optical fiber is inserted into the device, the cutting blade member 15a is displaced in ≥2 directions perpendicular to the axis of the optical fiber to cut the fiber jacket with the couple of straight blade parts 16 and 16', and the optical fiber or cutting blade member 15a is rotated by a desired angle to further cut the optical fiber jacket, which is removed.
