Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately retrieve a piece of music intended by a retriever from among a data base at high speed by freely inputting one part of or all the piece of music, without requiring the retriever to be conscious of phrases, melody and tempo or the like.
SOLUTION: In the construction of the data base, a piece of music defined as a retrieval object is converted into musical note information by a music information converting means 2, and the piece of music made into musical note information is divided into plural music elements and stored in a music element storage part 34 of a data base 3. Moreover, corresponding to these music elements, an index-generating means 33 prepares indexes. When retrieving, a piece of music to be a retrieval key is divided into plural music elements by the music information converting means 2, music elements in the data base 3 similar to the respective music elements are retrieved by a music piece retrieving means 4, while using the indexes and by investigating the time consistency of music elements as the retrieved results, the candidate part pieces of a piece of music in the data base similar to the retrieval key are searched.
