PURPOSE: To provide a device and a method for efficiently shrouding molten metal stream poured from a ladle to the other vessel from the viewpoint of the contamination in the atmosphere.
CONSTITUTION: The shrouding device 62 is provided with a ring 68 for trumpet connected so as to be freely attached/detached with a trumpet stand 44 and a ring 48 for ladle connected with the ladle 40 holding the molten metal to be poured. A ceramic fiber-made enclosure 64 for surrounding the poured molten metal is mutually connected with the rings 48 and 68. An opening in the ladle 40 is fitted to the ring 48 for ladle and the enclosure 64 is concentrically matched to above the opening parts of the rings 48 and 68. The enclosure 64 is fitted to the trumpet ring 68 and the poured molten metal is surrounded between the ladle 40 and the trumpet stand 44. Inert gas is blown into the enclosure 64 and the contaminants in the atmosphere existing in the enclosure 64 are purged.
