Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for storing a nuclear fuel material, capable of guaranteeing the subcriticality of a stored nuclear fuel material even when the environment around a storage container is changed.SOLUTION: A device 1 for storing a nuclear fuel material capable of replacing and housing a storage container 2 for storing the nuclear fuel material comprises: a cylindrical outer container 3 constituted with a substance having a moderation ratio higher than light water, including an area 5 allowing to house the storage container 2 inside and having an open part of the circular top surface of the cylinder; a neutron detector 4 embedded and arranged at the vicinity of the area 5 on the inner surface of the outer container 3 and for measuring a neutron counting rate in the storage container 2; and a calculation unit 6 for calculating the amount of the nuclear fuel material having possibility that the inside of the storage container 2 is critical on the basis of the measured result.
