To provide a device and a method for automatically taking in and out a plate only out of a plate with a lid from a lower part of a stacker.

This device for taking in and out a plate out of a plate with a lid in a stacker comprises a chuck provided around the plate with a lid at a lowest level of the stacker in which a plurality of plates with a lid are horizontally stacked to hold and release the lid or plate at a side surface, a support pin to support and release the lid or plate at a bottom surface, and an elevator vertically movable toward the plate with the lid at the lowest position to take in and out the plate, or deliver a plate on a shuttle. By controlling the chuck, the support pin, and the elevator, the plate only can be taken out, leaving the lid in the stacker, or the plate moved by the shuttle can be taken to be returned under the lid at the lowest level of the stacker to be covered with the lid.
