To provide a device and method to extract methane gas capable of appropriately extracting methane gas from methane hydrate by restraining: reduction in methane gas production efficiency due to clogging at a strainer section; and environment destruction due to settlement of a sea bottom or a lake bottom, a crack or a gas leak on the same or dispersion of a harmful substance.
The present invention comprises: a first well section 1 and a second well section 2 respectively having gas holders 5 and 12, to separate methane gas M from water W which are transported inside tubular well main bodies 4 and 11 from a lower section to an upper section thereof, arranged at respective upper edges of the tubular well main bodies 4 and 11 with respective strainer sections 6 and 13; and a connection section 3 installed so as to communicate an inside of the first well section 1 with the inside of the second well section 2. The invention also has a circulation pump unit 21 which circulates water W among the first well section 1, the connection section 3, the second well section 2 and a methane hydrate layer G1 in a normal direction T1 or a reverse direction T2 through normal driving or reverse driving.
