To provide a device and a method for multiplexing a negative or positive acknowledgment signal (ACK or NACK) and a CQI signal being transmitted from UE to a serving base station (Node B) during the channel quality indicator (CQI) transmission time interval (TTI) in a single carrier frequency division multiple access (SC-FDMA) communication system.
UE does not transmit data simultaneously. Multiplexing of response signals is achieved implicitly by UE applying orthogonal covers different from each other to a reference signal (RS) symbol transmitted by CQI TTI, based on the fact whether or not the UE transmits ACK or NACK. In a Node B receiver, after the orthogonal covers applied to the UE transmitters are removed, the ACK or NACK is detected based on the RS energy stored. For robust system execution, absence of ACK/NACK or NACK is mapped to the same orthogonal cover.
