PURPOSE: To provide a vehicle periphery monitoring device which monitors around a vehicle and which makes a display in shape approximate to the shape when a rope and the like exist, and is improved so as to be free from the physically discomfortable feeling.

CONSTITUTION: As for a monitoring device which monitors around a vehicle by calculating the substance position from the difference between the image pick-up calescence point at the illuminated spot on a flat standard road surface where no obstacle exists, and the image pick-up calescence point position for the substance at the same spot, a rope detecting means 1 for detecting a rope from the image pick-up calecence point, interpolation means 2 for interpolating the points other than the points which are judged as rope when the rope detecting means judges the rope, and a display means 3 for displaying the points interpolated by the interpolation means are provided.
