To provide a device for positioning the spindle coupling of a stand changing type rolling mill which is not necessary to provide elevating/lowering mechanisms for separately adjusting the levels of respective spindle couplings and position detectors.

This device is provided with a lower spindle supporting frame 4 for supporting a lower spindle coupling 3 which is ascendable and descendable, a pair of upper spindle supporting frames 2a and 2b in the upper part of which spindle supporting bodies 6a and 6b for supporing an upper spindle coupling 1 are arranged freely movable forward and backward and a pair of rocking members 12a and 12b which are pivotally supported so that these can be rocked. In this device for positioning roll shafts 9a and 9b and spindle couplings 1 and 3, one end each of the respective rocking members 12a and 12b which are placed opposite to each other is connected to and pivotally supported with the lower spindle supporting frame 4 so as to be freely rocked and the other ends are respectively connected to and pivotally supported with each of a pair of the upper spindle supporting frames 2a and 2b so as to be freely rocked.
