Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for previously driving idler rolls with which the number of revolution of the idler rolls is exactly controlled, problems such as the material is cooled are eliminated and also the cost of equipment is inexpensive.
SOLUTION: This device is provided with driven friction plates 33 attached to the idler rolls, driving friction plates 32 for driving the driven plates 33, power transmitting mechanism 20 for transmitting the power from an outside drive source to driving boxes 30 and oscillating cylinders for changing the position of the driving boxes 30 between the driving position where the driving plates 32 are brought into contact to rotate the driven plates 33 and the nondriving position where the driving plates 32 are separated trom the driven plates 33. The power transmitting device 20 is provided with overrunning clutches 23 and universal joints 24 which are interposed in the power transmitting system and set so as to take the number of revolution slightly lower than the number of revolution of the roll corresponding to the speed of a rolled stock as the upper limit.
