To provide an inexpensive device which is not restricted by a crucible shape and atmosphere and also capable of forming a good heat flow downwardly flowing from a seed holding part.
This device for producing a single crystal by a vertical Bridgman method is provided with a susceptor 3 for supporting a shoulder part 2a at the bottom of a crucible 2 and also for receiving a seed holding part 2b that is a lower projecting part of the crucible 2, and a heater 7. In the device, the susceptor 3 is provided with a lower shaft 4 which is used for supporting the susceptor 3 in such a way that the suscetor 3 can freely be elevated or lowered, and also placed so as to be finely and vertically movable relatively to the susceptor 3 in order to allow the shaft 4 to normally contact with the lower end of the seed holding part 2b.
