To provide an article retrieving/collecting device capable of specifying all the articles and their positions existing in a vast area while traveling/moving a device body and capable of securely collecting information of what and where the articles are in the area under conditions where a non-contact radio IC tag is fixed to each article.

In the article retrieving/collecting device 1, a CPU 101 varies a transmission/reception enabling range of RFID reader 14 while traveling/moving the device body. When an RFID tag existing in the varied detection range is retrieved, the CPU detects the relative relation between an article attached with the ID tag and the device body so as to specify the position of the article and collects the article and stores the position of the article and a tag ID read from the RFID tag by cordinating them with each other.
