PURPOSE: To easily obtain an image with a wide visual field angle in a screen having a determined aspect ratio in an existing reproducing system without requiring a complicated reproducing system and generating optical distortion in the reproducing system or deterioration in an output image.

CONSTITUTION: This video signal recording and reproducing device is prohibited with an anamophic optical system 7 for compressing an incident optical image in a horizontal direction, a photographing means 14 for photographing an object through the optical system 7 and obtaining a video signal, a recording means 15 for recording the video signal, a reproducing means 16 for reproducing the video signal recorded by the means 15, and an image display mean 17 for displaying an image while narrowing a horizontal scanning line interval based upon the video signal reproduced by the means 16.
