To provide a rolling device capable of efficiently rolling a powdery material, when the powdery material is sterilized by the irradiation of electron beams, and to provide a method for sterilizing the powdery material by the use of the rolling device.
A sterilization device 1 comprises a rolling device 2 in which a powdery material is charged, an electron beam irradiation device 40 for irradiating electron beams, a travel table 60 for transferring the rolling device 2 into the electron beam irradiation device 40, etc. The rolling device comprises a vessel 4, a driving mechanism, etc., and can arbitrarily be moved on rails 62 by the use of wheels. The vessel is circular, and has an approximately vertically standing peripheral side surface, a smoothly inclined curved portion ranging from the side surface end portion to the central portion, and an approximately horizontal bottom portion. In the center of the bottom portion of the vessel, a rotation shaft provided with four flexible backward bent arms is disposed in a state capable of being rotated using a driving mechanism. The rotation shaft can be rotated at an arbitrary rotation rate to roll the powdery material received in the vessel.
