PURPOSE: To provide a device capable of sewing an elastic hem to a fabric piece and being applied even to a curved hem with excellent quality by arranging a deflection roller for deflecting a triple-ply structure composed of a fabric edge part, an elastic band and a folding part from a passage in a horizontal direction between a pair of carrying rollers and a second sewing machine.

CONSTITUTION: The triple-ply structure 14 composed of the fabric edge part 16, the elastic band 6 and a fabric folding part 18 is formed. There, the elastic band 6 is positioned between fabric parts 16 and 18 and fabric is folded along the edge 20 in a length direction of the elastic band 6 on a side away from a stitch 12. Between two sewing material supporting bases 28a and 28b of the two sewing machines, the deflection roller 40 provided with recessed and projected parts on its surface and driven in a direction opposite to the advancing direction of sewing materials 16 and 18 is arranged. The shaft of carrying rollers 36 and 38 is turned in the horizontal direction so as to be vertical similarly to the rotary shaft of the deflection roller 40. The deflection roller 40 is arranged at a position for deflecting the triple-ply structure from another actual horizontal carrying path. The deflection roller 40 is driven by a DC motor similarly to the carrying rollers 36 and 38 and the rotating direction of the deflection roller 40 is opposite to the advancing direction of the sewing materials. Thus, the triple- ply structure is kept in a closed state even in the case of curved stitches.
