PURPOSE: To prevent a wrong operation surely without spoiling operability in the case of changing a range select switch of an automatic transmission through turning an operating member by operating the operating member in the axial direction only when the changing operation concerned with the range R(reverse) is selected.
CONSTITUTION: A speed change device 10 is arranged in an instrument panel and the like of a vehicle, and is used for changing over a range selecting switch by turning a dial shaped operating member 11. In this case, a knob 11c is positioned at the range R by pushing down the operating member 11 against a compression coil spring 40 in the state where the knob 11c of the operating member 11 is set at each range P or N. Then, a movable contact point 14 comes in contact with a fixed contact point 28 of a lower contact point base 24, and a select switch for range R is switched on. That is, only when the range R is selected, the operating member 11 is operated in the axial direction. Thus, it is possible to prevent a wrong operation without spoiling operatability by letting a driver take case of the operation about the range R.
