This device for supporting the hoist 5 of an elevator is provided in a machine base 3, which is provided to ride over a hoistway 1, while crossing the hoistway 1, through a vibration control rubber 63. A lower base 61 arranged so that an inclined surface is directed upward and an upper base 62 arranged so that an inclined surface is directed downward are piled so that both the inclined surfaces abut on each other and that they can move in relation to each other, and arranged in vertical series to the vibration control rubber 63 to support the hoist 5. A base moving means 75 is provided to relatively move the lower base 61 or the upper base 62 in the inclining direction, and the hoist 5 is vertically moved to adjust level with the relative movement by the base moving means 75.
