Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide the swelling device capable of cooling carbon dioxide charged into an impregnation container and of impregnating the tobacco raw material with gaseous carbon dioxide under suitable conditions.
CONSTITUTION: Gaseous carbon dioxide is charged into an impregnation container 11 by a swelling auxiliary-feeding means so as to maintain a prescribed impregnation pressure. The tobacco raw material is continuously fed into the impregnation container by a raw material-feeding means 12 while the pressure is raised. The treated raw material is continuously discharged from the impregnation container by a raw material-discharging means 13 while the pressure is reduced. The swelling auxiliary-feeding means is equipped with a heat exchanger 61, in which the carbon dioxide charged into the impregnation container and a cooling medium are subjected to a mutual heat exchange treatment to cool the carbon dioxide. The state of the carbon dioxide charged into the impregnation container 11 is controlled in response to the temperature, etc., of the tobacco raw material discharged from the impregnation container.
