PURPOSE: To transfer and receive surely heated billets by each piece to and from an extracting device and to estract the billets to the outside of a walking beam type heating furnace by providing a specifically constructed transferring and receiving device which operates cooperatively with the operation of a moving hearth to the hearth end on the outlet side of said furnace.

CONSTITUTION: Billets 6 are heated by a walking beam type heating furnace 1 constituted of a stationary hearth 9 and a moving hearth 10 and are moved in the furnace then the billets are taken to the outside of the furnace 1 by an extracting device 3. A billet transferring and receiving device 8 provided with turning arms 29 is installed at the end on the outlet side of the hearth of such heating furnace. The arms 29 are connected at the intermediate part to a moving frame 17 for driving the hearth 10 and are made movable vertically and laterally around pins 30. Said device receives the billets 6 by each piece in the billet receiving part 34 according to the vertical movement of the hearth 10, turns clockwise the billets, transfers the same onto the rollers 37 of the device 3. The billets 6 are extracted by each piece to the outside of the heating furnace by the revolution of the rollers 37.
