Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To transmit compressed data within a proper time through a limited band channel by using a quantization table so as to keep visual quality of an original image. SOLUTION: An image document is received by a color scanner 136, converted into color original image data, fed to a correction and conversion engine 138, an irregularity in the scanner 136 is corrected and a proper format is obtained. It is compressed by a JPEG compression engine 140 including a quantization table and the result is fed to a G3/G4 encapsulated engine 142. The engine 142 executes a step to encapsulate compressed image data according to the facsimile standard G3 or G4. Then the encapsulated data are transmitted via a transmission means 144 through a channel with a limited band width. Thus, the transmission time is reduced and the visual quality of an original is maintained.
