Abstract:
A thickness-controlling device for a metallic coating on an elongated metallic strip (1) formed by continuously transporting the strip through a molten metal bath (2) comprises a second wiper (11) associated with a respective electromagnetic wiper (7a, 7b, 8a, 8b) and designed to apply a jet of gas to the strip with a target area according to a line transversely of the strip with respect to the direction of the transport path in order to assist the electromagnetic wiper in the wiping of superfluous molten metal from the strip. A thickness-controlling device for a metallic coating on an elongated metallic strip formed by continuously transporting the strip through a molten metal bath, where the strip is intended to be transported from the bath in a transport direction (3) along a predetermined transport path (x), comprises pair(s) of electromagnetic wipers designed to be arranged along the transport path on each side of a strip transported along the path for wiping off superfluous molten metal from the component by applying a traveling magnetic field onto the molten metal on the strip. The device further comprises a second wiper associated with the respective electromagnetic wiper and designed to apply a jet of gas to the strip with a target area according to a line transversely of the strip with respect to the direction of the transport path in order to assist the electromagnetic wiper in the wiping of superfluous molten metal from the strip. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling the thickness of a metallic coating on an elongated metallic strip comprising transporting the strip in a transport direction along a predetermined path; and wiping off superfluous molten metal from the elongated metallic component by applying to the component with the still not solidified metallic coating a traveling magnetic field and a jet of gas with a target area according to a line transversely of the component with respect to the direction of the transport path on the component with the still not solidified metallic coating.
