PURPOSE: To provide a dewaxing assistant effective for a relatively low-viscosity oil having an SAE of 20-10 as well as for a relatively high-viscosity oil having an SAE of ≥30 and provide a dewaxing process using the assistant.
CONSTITUTION: This dewaxing assistant is a mixture produced by mixing (A) a multicomponent ester copolymer having a weight-average molecular weight of 5,000-700,000 and composed of acrylic acid and a mixture of aliphatic alcohols having 6-16C alkyl groups with (B) a multi-component ester copolymer having a weight-average molecular weight of 5,000-700,000 and composed of acrylic acid and a mixture of aliphatic alcohols having 17-30C alkyl groups at a weight ratio (A:B) of (25-75):(75-25). As an alternative, the dewaxing agent is a mixture produced by mixing the above mixture with a polycondensation product of a chlorinated paraffin and biphenyl having a weight-average molecular weight of 2,000-60,000 at a weight ratio of (25-75):(75-25).
