PURPOSE: To provide plating on the whole surface of dial letters by applying plastic working that includes shearing work to the side faces of letters and the dial face in the process of making dial letters project from the dial face by press work.
CONSTITUTION: Silver plating 6 is applied to the surface of the dial face of a timepiece and, further, an electricity insulation film 7 is applied on the silver plating. Next, the dial face is subjected to press work with a die to project letters 8 from the dial face. A part of the side 8c of a letter 8 projects under a shearing state from the dial face 5. At that moment the insulation film 7 is broken and on the side 8c of the letter 8 a metallic face is exposed. Next, when the upper face 8a of the letter 8 is machined and plated with gold 9, the whole surface of the letter 8 is plated with gold 8 because of exposure of the upper face 8a and the side 8b. With the insulation film 7 on the dial face 5 removed a dial face with the whole surface of the letter 8 with gold plating 9 and the dial face with silver plating 6 is completed.
