Abstract:

PURPOSE: To prevent the reaction between carbon and diamond in a substrate by preliminarily dispersing platinum, iridium and palladium on the surface of a substrate of a sintered hard allay to be coated with diamond.
CONSTITUTION: A sintered hard allay constituted of one or more kinds among the carbides, nitrides and carbon nitrides of the groups 4a, 5a and 6a in the periodic table and one or more kinds among the iron group and Cr group is used as a substrate. On the surface of this substrate, in the substrate and on the surface of the substrate and/or as an internal layer, one or more kinds among platinum, iridium and palladium are dispersed, struck or applied. Next, as the external layer, diamond of 0.5 to 15 micron is applied by vapor phase synthesis to obtain the objective tool. In the case platinum or the like are present on the surface of the substrate, when the crystalline nuclei of diamond are formed, they absorb carbon on the surface of the substrate by their catalytic operation, and in an excited state in diamond coating or the like, carbon to be reacted with the crystalline nuclei reduces or is made hardly present. Thus, a diamong film of quality can be obtd.
