To provide a method for producing a diamond particle-dispersion metal matrix composite having excellent quality by utilizing a discharge plasma sintering process, thereby reducing the damage of particles in a production process.
Regarding the method for producing diamond particle-dispersed type metal matrix composite, a predetermined amount of diamond particles whose surfaces are coated with a metal having a predetermined thickness are heated up at a temperature rising rate of 0.1C/s(0.1K/s) to 8.3C/s (8.3K/s) in a vacuum atmosphere of 100 Pa in a state where pressure of 1 Kpa to 1.5 GPa is applied, and d.c. pulse current or superimposed current of d.c. pulse current and d.c. current under predetermined voltage and current is made to flow for 10 to 7,200 s (120 min) in such as manner that it is thermostatically held in the range of 343 to 1,083C, and sintering is performed.
