PURPOSE: To provide a novel diarylketone compound or its medicinally acceptable acid adduct salt having a prolylendopeptidase-inhibiting action, and useful for the therapy of dementia, malignant tumor, inflammation, digestive tract function disorders, etc.
CONSTITUTION: A diarylketone compound is represented by formula I (R1, R2 are H, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, phenyl; Ar is phenyl, naphthyl, heteroaryl; X is N, CH; A is alkylene; R3, R4 are H, alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, alkanoyl, adamantyl, phenyl, aralkyl, etc.; R3, R4 and N form nitrogen-containing heterocyclic ring) or its medicinally acceptable acid adduct salt, e.g. 2-(9-dimethylaminononyl)-6- isopropyl-3-pyridine 2-thieyl ketone. The compound of formula I is obtained e.g. by reacting a compound of formula II (Y is OH, etc.,) with a compound of formula III.
