Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL:An anthraquinone compound of formula I (where R1 is a 3- or 4-substituted anilino group of formula II or III, R2 is H or R1, and R3 and R4 are each an alkyl, alkyloxy, alkylcarbonyl, alkyloxycarbonyloxy, or alkylamino group, and any one of R3 and R4 may be H in case where R3 and R4 coexist).
EXAMPLE: 1,5-Dihydroxy-4-(4-n-butylanilino)-8-nitroanthraquinone.
USE: A dichromic dye capable of coloring liquid crystal utilizing a quest-host effect. PRODUCTION:1,5-Dihydroxy-4,8-dinitroanthraquinone is reacted with a 3- or 4- substituted aniline at 100W200°C in an inert solvent, e.g., dichlorobenzene, nitrobenzene, etc.
