To provide a dictionary device and a program in which when a book which is viewed by a portable dictionary device capable of selectively displaying a dictionary and a book in a longitudinal arrangement state is read in a laterally laying-down posture as it is, change operation for function settings need not be performed at each time, and a longitudinal/lateral display switching function based upon the gravitation direction is automatically made ineffective to make an easy-to-read display.
The dictionary device includes an acceleration sensor which detects a tilt of a device body, and a display switching function which alternates lateral arrangement display HG for displaying a text upright when the device body is orthogonal to the gravitation direction and longitudinal arrangement VG for displaying the text upright when the device body is in a longitudinal direction. When the power supply of the device is in an ON state and the device body is longitudinal, a longitudinal arrangement flag is set and the display mode of book-like content is fixed to the longitudinal arrangement display VG.
