A tubular discharge vessel (1) surrounds a discharge space filled with a discharge medium. Elongate electrodes extend along the entire length of the longitudinal extent of the discharge space. Each electrode is divided into two electrode sections (2a,2b) in its longitudinal direction. An independent claim is also included for a dielectric barrier discharge lamp operating method.
