Abstract:
To suppress the generation of soot or others to the utmost by making effective use of air in a combustion chamber part of which is defined by a crown surface having cavities to form homogeneous and lean air-fuel mixture.SOLUTION: The bottom surface of a combustion chamber 6 of a diesel engine to be controlled is defined by a crown surface 50 including first and second cavity parts 51, 52, and a connection part 53 connecting both of them. A fuel injection control part 71 allows an injector 15 to execute main injection P1 or pilot injection P2 directed to the connection part 53, and low penetration injection P4, P5 serving as fuel injection in a PILOT region at an earlier timing than the pilot injection P2 or in an AFTER region at a later timing than the main injection P1. The fuel injection control part 71 retards the injection timing for the low penetration injection P4 when an engine water temperature is high, compared to when it is low.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 15
