Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a diesel engine that improves ignitability of fuel to inhibit heat loss without inhibiting a swirl inside the whole combustion chamber that contributes to combustion speed even when the load is low.SOLUTION: The diesel engine includes: a swirl ratio adjustment mechanism 41 that, when the load is low, increases a swirl ratio of intake air flowing into the combustion chamber 12 more than that when the load is high; and a bore inner wall surface part 12AB that is a bore inner wall surface 12A defining part of the combustion chamber, of which surface roughness of an exhaust side part on an upper side relative to a slide surface to a piston is formed into a surface roughness relatively higher than those of other bore inner wall surface parts.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
