Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress combustion noise and stabilize combustion, while improving fuel economy and emission performance.SOLUTION: An engine 1 is an engine supplied with fuel with light oil as a main component and having a geometrical compression ratio of 15 or below and includes a PCM10 for controlling the combustion state thereof. The PCM10 is configured to switch between a premix combustion mode to cause the engine 1 to perform premix combustion in an EGR operation range in which the load of the engine 1 is on a predetermined low load side and EGR is executed in a steady state, and a diffusion combustion mode to cause the engine to perform diffusion combustion. The EGR operation range includes a premix range a2 in which the premix combustion mode is assumed, a low load side diffusion range a1 provided on the low load side of the engine load than the premix combustion range a2 to assume the diffusion combustion mode, and a high load side diffusion range a3 provided on a high load side of the engine load than the premix combustion range a2 to assume the diffusion combustion mode.
