To smoothly perform shifting of molten metal by dipping the tip end part of a pipe for shifting the molten metal into a molten metal vessel being a shift destination and preventing the development of an unintended siphon phenomenon.
The shift of molten metal is started by dipping the tip end part of a pipe 5 for shifting the molten metal into the surface of a molten metal 18 being the shift destination in the storing vessel 3 of the shift destination. When the pressurization in a molten metal ladle 2 is stopped after reaching an optional shifting amount of the molten metal, the siphon phenomenon caused by a head difference (the difference of the heights of the molten metal surfaces) between the molten metal 4 in the molten metal ladle 2 and the molten metal 18 of the shift destination in the storing vessel 3 of the shift destination is stopped by supplying air into the pipe 5 for shifting the molten metal through a porous refractory serving as a lining of this pipe 5 from an opening part 8 arranged at the pipe wall of the pipe 5. The spouting of the molten metal from the opening part 8 is prevented by supplying air into the pipe 5 through the porous refractory.
